To support you in your recovery journey, to enable you to reach your full potential in all areas of your life

What Is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy (OT) is commonly misconstrued as a purely a form of physical rehabilitation following injury or illness. This couldn’t be further from the truth as the foundations of Occupational Therapy lie firmly in mental health. An Occupational therapist’s role in mental health is to increase an individual’s ability to live as independently as possible, and to engage in a meaningful and satisfying life as defined by the person themselves.

Services

Life Crisis Coaching

Have you or a loved one been in crisis?

Allow me to support you post crisis by completing a holistic assessment using the stress model of crisis to guide, as well as provide a safe space to reflect on the crisis.  This enables us to then understand, learn and develop coping strategies and techniques which will aim to  reduce the risk of it reoccurring.

AMPS Assessments (Assessment of Motor and Process Skills)

The Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS) is a gold standard Activity of Daily Living (ADL) observational assessment.  It allows for the simultaneous evaluation of motor & process skills & their effect on the ability of a person to perform complex/ instrumental and personal ADLs.

The assessment is highly evidence based and internationally standardised.  It can be used by clients of all ages, with any diagnosis.

Employment / Vocational Rehabilitation

Are you struggling with work due to your mental health?  Or are you an employer wishing to offer support to employees?  I am able to support graded returns to work for people who have been off work due to their mental health.

Testimonials

I just wanted to thank you for doing the assessment and report to support a member of our staff at such short notice.

The report is excellent and has some great action points, not only for our employee, but also for how we operate as a team."

"I have spoken with the employee post assessment and he found the session and subsequent report hugely beneficial.

We will certainly be in touch again if we need any further support ".

                                                             HR Manager

"Working with Katie was great. I feel that I got some useful advice to make daily living skills achievable, so that I can be independent when I move on from supported living.  The support with activity planning has helped me understand how to pace myself and and how to break things down hour by hour.  I've already purchased and had delivered  the suggested equipment and I can't wait to see how much easier this will make my life, bot at home and when I go out and about.

I found my time with Katie and her functional assessment report to be an extremely positive experience and of great use!  Thank you :) "

Heidi (Resident at a supported living provider)

I have worked with Katie, professionally, for over 15 years.

Katie was always the one I would turn to when the department had a member of staff who was struggling with their work load.  She would provide supervision that was absolutely pertinent to their difficulties and developed action plans to help nurture and develop their skills to enable them to cope in what was a highly stressful environment.

Clinically ,Katie demonstrated a keen interest in developing people’s understanding of their mental illness and how it impacts on the quality of life, and then work collaboratively with them to develop detailed action plans. This explored future occupational choices and other life options.

The other key skill that Katie demonstrated was working with newly qualified staff; she would enable them to build on their skills, identifying focus areas and challenges. I was always confident that at the end of this process the member of staff would be confident, clear about their role and their skills.

I loved working alongside Katie, she is a great therapist.

Mandy - Director of Clinical Services.

Having worked alongside Katie as part of a multidisciplinary team, I found her to be an exemplary role model and a valued member of the team.  Her contribution to providing an excellent service was consistent and delivered with genuine care and compassion.  Service users would often speak of the positive impact of the work they were doing with Katie, which prepared them for the next step in their progression.  This was great to hear and highly encouraging.

Katie also demonstrated a distinct knowledge of her field of work and offered fresh ideas and solutions.

I have followed her career path for some time now and in doing so have been impressed with her commitment to excellence as well as a keen desire to seek the best outcomes for clients, colleagues and staff alike.

I would not hesitate in recommending to any provider or individual a consultation and treatment with Katie.

I can strongly provide assurances that a first class service will be offered and delivered at all times.

                                                           Kenny - Hospital Manager

"For many years now I have struggled with mental illness.  I felt like I was in a vicious circle - feeling on the mend one minute then becoming unwell the next - over and over again.  I've been in some pretty dark places and have had a few stays in hospital too over the past few years.  My medication helped reduce the voices in my head and the paranoid thoughts I was having - but I felt so low in mood and had no motivation to do anything.  I was isolating myself and felt I had nothing to live for.

Katie supported me with a programme of mental health awareness, alongside a plan tailored especially to me, my own wants and needs.  I now feel more in control.  I understand where I was going wrong.  I now know what my early warning signs and triggers are.  I finally feel like I may actually be able to do some kind of work - make something of myself - she's going to help me with that too.  I'm now able to go out and about again and have re-kindled friendships as well as make new ones.

OT has definitely changed my life".

"Katie was a great help when I was going through a difficult time at school.  My anxiety was having a negative effect on my exams and my health.  Katie showed me techniques to help with anxiety attacks.  She worked patiently with me and I have used the calming techniques throughout school and university."

Lizzie - Student.  21

"Work was taking over my life. I was stressed, anxious, depressed, couldn't sleep. I feel I was headed for a breakdown. Being responsible for staff and a company, I didn't want to let people down but the pressure was mounting.

Katie was fantastic. We created a plan together and she supported me to get my life back, using an approach which meant I could work on it at my pace but with her gentle encouragement to drive me forward.. I now feel it's OK - and also important - to have 'me time' without feeling guilty  doing things that I enjoy. Despite this taking time out of a busy schedule, it means I'm happier and so much more productive at work. I've learns so many techniques and I am so much happier!   Family life is a lot better too.  I'm so relieved to feel back on track and enjoying life."

 Ian - Company Director.    53

"Katie is an extremely good listener with a high level of empathy, knowledge and understanding of mental health issues.  These skills I have found are imperative, as they have assisted me with learning to manage my anxiety and live a more fulfilling and happier life.  I can truly say that her methods have played a big part in finding the old me".
